RAIDERS OF ATLANTIS (1983) (aka I predatori di Atlantide, Atlantis, Atlantis Inferno, The Atlantis Interceptors)
Review: The lost city of Atlantis has resurfaced, which would be very cool except it's now being guarded by a very inhospitable bunch of guys with '80s hairdos who drive motorcycles (one would think they'd prefer jet skis, but oh well....). Ah, but no worries; it's '80s action legend Christopher Connelly (who starred in everything from 1990: The Bronx Warriors to an episode of Eight is Enough--now that's diversity!) to the rescue in Raiders of Atlantis, an action-packed adventure from infamous cult director Ruggero Deodato.
As this film kicks off, the discovery of a lost radioactive submarine and a mysterious tablet lead to the resurfacing of Atlantis; a civilization whose leaders and defenders are out to take over the world. A group lead by Connelly and featuring a bright, glamorous female professor and a coterie of tough guys is ready to stop them, via an adventure that brims with one-liners, horror-style suspense, and romantic dialogue that centers around the consumption of spinach (?!). Once again Deodato delivers a fun actioner that, unlike some of his other films, does not rely too heavily on shock or gore. Raiders of Atlantis is a cheesy fun fest that any certified B-movie fan is sure to enjoy. Review by Megan Hussey
