Review: Hercules is a cultural icon of a character that has found a number of incarnations on the big screen. Played by Lou Ferrigno in the 1980s and Kevin Sorbo in the '90s, this role was dominated in the 1960s by Italian bodybuilder Kirk Morris.
Morris played Hercules in a number of films; and in the 1963 actioner "Hercules, Samson and Ulysses," he shares the screen with two other legendary heroes. As the film kicks off Hercules sets off on high seas to battle a nefarious sea monster, the loyal, ever philosophic Ulysses at his side. Then he squares off against fellow muscleman Samson (Richard Lloyd) in an exciting fight scene; and, in a climax that fairly screams of '60s "Give peace a chance" ideals, the two eventually join forces against an enemy king. And of course, that pesky Delilah is around to stir up trouble for Samson.
The film presents three mythical heroes in numerous action scenes, tempered by wry humor and even a little romance. "Hercules, Samson and Ulysses" is a must see for sword and sandal fans. ~ Megan Hussey Fullscreen, in English, no subtitles. Quality B-
