SUMMER BLOWOUT SALE

 CINEMA DE BIZARRE RECOMMENDS

Within this page you will find some of our own personal favorites, some you may agree with, while others you might not, or maybe never heard of before.  These are films that we have watched more then once, and throughly enjoyed them for whatever reason, and want to bring them to your attention.  If you can't decide on what to order, then here's some choice films to think about adding to your collection.

BLOOD AND LACE (1971) Not to be confused with Mario Bava's "Blood and Black Lace", this is the American horror film, that has been called "One of the Sickest PG-rated films ever made".  Actually the film was given a GP rating upon release, the equivalent of today's PG rating.  A teenage girl is sent to an orphanage after her prostitute mother is murdered, in a double murder by hammer opening sequence.  The orphanage is run by a woman, and her handyman, who murder those who try to run away.  The film features some of the most disturbing and politically incorrect situations you could think of.  Great B drive-in movie trash from the glorious seventies.  Highly recommended!  Uncut, In English, no subtitles.  Quality A-

DARKER THAN AMBER (1970) Rod Taylor portrays Travis McGee, a character created by John D. MacDonald in well over 20 novels.  Private detective McGee is hired to find the murderer of a woman's sister.  It all leads to a brutal fight scene, with bad guy William Smith.  Completely Uncut import print, fullscreen, in English, with Dutch subtitles.  Quality B, great print of this very hard to find uncut version.

IN THE DEVIL'S GARDEN (1971) Completely uncut import print of this sleazy British giallo.  After one schoolgirl is raped while taking a short cut through the local woods, and another is murdered in the same woods a few days later, the local police are baffled.  Could it be the creepy husband of the head mistress at the school, the psychologist who seems to be taking an unusual interest in the case, or something all together more sinister?

ROLLING THUNDER (1977)  Gritty 70's revenge flick, with William Devane as Major Charles Rane, who returns to the US from Vietnam to find his small town just isn't what it used to be. When his wife and son are taken from him, it's revenge time.  Brutally realistic violence in this overlooked gem, from the writer of "Taxi Driver".  Widescreen print, in English, no subtitles.

STINGRAY (1978) A drug deal gone bad forces a couple of bumbling criminals to stash their cocaine in a Corvette at a used car lot, only to find it has been sold to a young guy out for some joy riding fun with his friend.  Enter a colorful female, Abigail, who just happens to be the ringleader of the criminals, and the chase is on.  Plenty of car chases, shootouts, and surprisingly violent gunshot deaths for a funtime car chase flick.  Sherry Jackson gives a great performance as the off color Abigail, including a great scene where in order to hide from the law she dresses as a nun, foul mouth and all.  Great stuff, and highly recommended!

TWISTED NERVE (1968) Hard to find British shocker, with plenty of nods to "Psycho".  Considered to be the very first British splatter film.  A woman has two children, one's a mongoloid, and the other a homicidal maniac, jeez, talk about your bad luck.  Hayley Mills befriends the lunatic, only to be hunted down by this chromosome defect.  Gory stabbing with scissors, and axe murder sequences, along with a musical score by Bernard Herrmann

WORM TAIL VAMPIRE (1970) Eerie, and surreal documentary on the filming of Jess Franco's Count Dracula.  The film contains no dialogue, with the exception of Chris Lee reading a passage from Bram Stoker's Dracula at the very end.  There is background music, sound effects, and some wonderful footage of Christopher Lee fooling around, and Soledad smoking in bed in between shots.  Coverart unavailable for this rarity, comes in a paper sleeve only.  Quality C
